Melted records on wooden armature
5.2 ft h x 9 ft w x 10.25 ft d

Installation at Brooklyn Academy of Music, New York
Records were melted and sculpted to form a cascading wave, dotted with bursts of colorful labels. The resulting structure speaks to the inevitable waves of technology that render each successive generation of recordable media obsolete. The piece also aims to physically manifest the ephemerality of music as well as one man’s musical tastes, as represented by his personal record collection.

Cute Picture

Sometimes I wish I could play the piano too.

[ editorial note: fans of Jeff will point out that he was the piano player at Momo's, a piano bar in Iowa. fans may or may not acknowlege that he had no idea what he was doing while he 'played'. he mainly wailed on the white keys while holding the sustain pedal. ]

Why America Is Screwed

September 30th, 2008

I apologize to the artist because I forgot to make a note of where I originally found this image. In thinking about the economic events that have happened in the last couple weeks, I can’t help think that here we are again: eating potato chips in front of a tv which is telling us to give all our money to the guy in the suit.

I can’t take credit for the title of this post, that’s the original post’s title. That, at least, I remember.

Zombies

I thought I’d start a category about things of which I’m unreasonably afraid. (I’m also attempting to avoid ending sentences with prepositions. Thanks to reading Kurt Vonnegut books all Summer. Let’s see if I keep this up.)

I’m now going to admit it: I’m crazy afraid of zombies. If I’m going to have a nightmare, it’ll most likey be about me suddenly realizing the entire world has turned into zombies but me. It’s creepy that they walk slowly and deliberately. It’s scary that you can be engulfed by a crowd of them, all gnawing at you and such.

I took this quiz, and I think I got such a low score because I don’t have any food in my apartment. Also, I live in NYC which is overcrowded and would produce a large number of zombies. I also don’t have a car, so I couldn’t drive away from a zombie mob either. Many things going against me in the zombie attack department of my life. Makes me think I should buy groceries.

So there it is. Zombies.

Now, let the Shawn of the Dead comments fly! [editorial: Jeff IS aware that he looks pretty much exactly like Shawn of the Dead. He even once had a goatee and short hair just like him.]

News Sample

September 23rd, 2008

I love me some news. The newer the better. In fact, as I’m writing this, something else has had to have happened. Now this is old news. And that’s bad news.

Well, maybe the new news is that the previous news is now bad news. Now we have new news. And that’s good news.
